The call for advanced all-electric vehicles is louder than ever, and Audi has elected to respond with an all-new vehicle that is making its debut this year. Newport RI and Taunton drivers who err on the side of environmental consciousness will find a lot to love about the Audi e-tron. The knock against electric vehicles has always been that while they are cleaner and far more efficient, they force their owners to sacrifice of performance.

This is not the case with the Audi e-tron. Despite the fact that it's taken a while for the company to introduce a fully electric SUV, they've gotten it right on the first try.

Audi's First-Ever Purely Electric SUV

The Audi e-tron represents a historical moment for the brand. It is the company's first-ever fully electric luxury SUV, proving that being eco-friendly can be as chic as the most affluent vehicles on the road today. You'll have a premium cabin loaded with the latest in advanced technology alongside satisfying handling thanks to its standard Quattro all-wheel-drive and a battery range of over 200 miles.

The first thing to keep in mind about the Audi e-tron is that this is an SUV with a performance output that can compete with the more traditional gas-powered models in its class. It comes equipped with a pair of electric motors that combine to produce a power output of 355 horsepower. What makes the e-tron unique is that comes with a Boost Mode, that when activated, unlocks even greater power. Boost Mode allows the Audi e-tron to clock in at 402 horsepower.

To activate Boost Mode, the Audi e-tron's transmission must be set to Sport Mode, which is accessible via the Audi Drive Select feature or the shifter. Boost Mode gives you eight seconds of enhanced performance, which gives you those little moments of exhilaration. The Audi e-tron's zero to 60 mph time is also positively influenced by Boost Mode, as it clocks in at 5.5 seconds with it enabled.

On top of this robust power, the Audi e-tron is, of course, features an incredibly high-level fuel economy. You'll get 74 MPGe in the city and 73 MPGe on the highway as well as an all-electric range of 204 miles.

If you're a technology buff, the Audi e-tron is built just for you. The hub of it all is the Audi MMI touch response infotainment system, which is controlled by a tablet-like 10.1-inch touchscreen. You'll be able to control features like Bluetooth, radio, and temperature and it even comes with advanced handwriting recognition and natural language recognition technology.

The infotainment system can interact with most prominent smartphones courtesy of its compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, what makes this setup stand out is its Amazon Alexa integration that unlocks an unrivaled set of technology features. With an active Audi connect Prime subscription, you'll have news, music, audiobooks, and full control over any Alexa-enabled device right from your steering wheel.

In addition, the Audi e-tron comes with the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, giving drivers a range of pertinent information to help them make the smartest decisions at a dynamic rate. The Cockpit displays information on charging, battery, route, and the infotainment system, so you'll stay informed at all times.

A big part about owning an Audi e-tron is how quickly it charges. Courtesy of its 150 kW DC charging capability, plugging it in for a mere ten minutes gets you a range of 54 miles, which is almost a quarter of the Audi e-tron's entire 204-mile electric range. A 54-mile range is all you'll need for most of your morning commutes, which makes the Audi e-tron an incredibly convenient vehicle to own.

The Audi e-tron is powered by a battery that's been expertly engineered as it is situated in a low position in the vehicle within a honeycomb structure. The battery is designed with long-term life in mind as it only uses 88 percent of its total 95 kW capacity.

Also key to the Audi e-tron's battery prowess is the ecosystem that the company has built nationwide. There are 16,000 charging stations currently available in the US, and Audi's Electrify America initiative will add 480 stations with over 2,000 dispensers by the end of 2019.

As a luxury SUV, the Audi e-tron ensures that it provides its Dartmouth owners with more active safety features than its competitors. Right off the bat, you'll have access to Audi Pre Sense City, which brings features such as a pre-collision warning and braking system and pedestrian detection. Other standard features include rear parking sensors, a top-view camera, and rear cross traffic alert.

The most notable available safety feature is the Adaptive cruise assist technology that dynamically helps the driver with a variety of tasks such as acceleration and braking as well as maintaining speed and following distance. Pre Sense 360 is also available, which detects when a collision is imminent and takes precautionary measures such as closing the windows and tightening the seat belts.

Available Audi E-Tron Models

The Audi e-tron comes in two different trim levels, and they are as follows.

Premium Plus

The Premium Plus is the first trim level in the Audi e-tron lineup, and it feels anything but basic. You'll have access to a wealth of standard features that include heated and ventilated front seats, a top-view camera with virtual 3D technology, Audi Pre Sense City and Side Assist, Matrix-design LED headlights and a premium sound system by Bang & Olufsen.

The Prestige is the ultimate Audi e-tron experience, as it includes everything in the Premium Plus trim, but adds several notable features. These features include a massage function in the front seats, power door closers, and an upgraded leather upholstery.
